Dr. Peter Savage was born and raised in the Detroit area. He attended Michigan State University for both undergraduate and medical school, with three years in between as an army medic and operating room technician.
He received his medical degree in 1977 and finished his three-year Grand Rapids practice residency in 1980. Since graduation, he has maintained board certification by retesting every seven years, most recently in 2008. He and his wife, Sandy, moved to Allegan, Michigan, in 1980. Since that time, he has practiced family medicine, including adult medicine, pediatrics, women's health and geriatrics. He delivered over 1,500 babies from 1980 – 2008.
He worked to establish Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County in 1985 and served as its medical director for 18 years. Leisure activities include sailing, bonsai, and antiquing (especially for medical antiques). The Savages have three children, Michael, Sarah, and Stephen, all graduates of the Allegan School System (where Sandy teaches 8th grade) and MSU.
