History of the Allegan Medical ClinicThe practice was incorporated in July 1972. Three physicians formed the practice, Harry Schneider M.D in Family Practice, Orhan Tugrul M.D in Internal Medicine, and Lawrence LaGattuta M.D in General Surgery. Each had sole practices in Allegan. They moved into a new office next door to the Allegan Health Center, which is now Allegan General Hospital.
In 1973 John Mulder joined the practice as a Registered Nurse. Later in 1974, James R. Wheat joined in family practice. Allegan Medical Clinic had now grown to four family practice physicians. In July of 1977 Dr. Timothy Dickinson joined in Family Practice. Later in 1980, both Dr. Peter Savage, and Dr. John Walstrum joined AMC. This core group of individuals carried the Allegan Medical Clinic through the eighties and on into the nineties.
In 1990 Dr Marcus Blass began General Surgery. In 1994 Dr. Kenneth Forsman joined AMC as a Family Practice Physician. Also in 1994, the surgery department grew again with the addition of Dr. Ann Henelt. In 1995 AMC added internal Medicine to its list of providers. Also in 1995, John Mulder III RN returned as a Physician Assistant. Later in 1997 Dr. David Dargis joined as a General Surgeon.
Five years later in 2002 Dr. Jennifer Houtman Joined Allegan Medical Clinic as a family practice physician. Also in family practice, Dr. Cassondra Kovach joined in 2003. Later in 2005 Dr. Brian Drozdowski joined AMC in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Most recently in February of 2006, Dr. Patricia Seiler joined Allegan medical Clinic in Family Practice.
The Allegan Medical Clinic has always required that the doctors as well as the physician assistants be Board Certified. This means that they are required to be involved in continued education and pass required exams.
Management of Allegan Medical Clinic falls to the shareholders, who elect and Executive Committee, who work to manage the Practice. The Allegan Medical Clinic has an administrator who directs the day to day business guided by the shareholders. Allegan Medical Clinic has had 7 administrators. The current administrator is Betty McDaniel.
In February of 2000, a move to the current medical building was made. This move was to help our patients have a new updated facility to come to see their physician. As we are connected to the Allegan General Hospital, patients can receive a full range of health care under one roof.
The Allegan Medical Clinic employees 65 to 70 people, making us one of the larger employers in the Allegan area. AMC is the largest privately owned medical group in Allegan County. We at the Allegan Medical Clinic are committed to the health and wellness of the community.
